Ask for your oil everyday; it comes in wisdom, knowledge, and direction. The further you get into your spiritual development you will see that the oil is very necessary. You will also see that without it you are left to pretty much mess up your life.

The story in Matthew 25 helps to explain:

1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. 6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. 7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

The oil we are talking about is not actually something that you see. It is something that we receive from God.

No, it isn't actually something that you feel touch you, or it it isn't something like you put in your car or use for cooking, or use when you get a massage. Although, I like to refer it to something like a massage. You know how good you feel after a massage.. or while they are working on you, how relaxed you are. That is the same feeling you can have when you receive from our father! We can't actually see if but we can feel it in all parts of our life.

You notice the last verse, Matthew 25:12 "Verily I say unto you, I know you not." If you do not take the time to learn what this is, you lose out on getting to know God. If you are so busy you don't have time to pray, or receive from God.. you will be lost and have no direction in life.

Look at verse 3 again. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

When we don't take the time to talk with God or be still and receive from him he tells us we are foolish. So many times we feel we have to get going and get to work, or rush off somewhere that we forget to stop and be grateful, or stop and be still so we can receive what he has for us.

In Psalm 23 we are told that he will lead us besides still waters. That doesn't actually mean we have to go to a lake or a river and hope that the water will be still so he can lead us. Rather it means to be quiet, still and let him give to you. It's a process that took me awhile to figure out.

I actually had to sit down and say, ok, Holy Spirit, I don't know what I am doing but I know that you offer benefits, and blessings and a multitude of gifts and I want to receive them. Then I had to learn to just be still. You might say it is like meditating. Just sit and seek his face. Think on Jesus! Think what he has done for you! Somehow he begins to download into you. Sort of like downloading from a computer. The stuff is just out there we can't see it but it's there. Like making a phone call to someone in another country... how does it happen. You can't see it, but you know it works. Just like electricity...

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with your whole heart; and lean not unto your own understanding!
