Who Are you comparing yourself to?

Our Joy should not be found in being better than others and competing or comparing with them. Our joy should be found in being the best WE can be.

If you remember one of the Ten Commandments talks about “Thou shall not covet. That means we are not to “want” what other people have, or want to look as they look or wish we had their talents or their personality, or really just about anything about them. God made each of us different. It’s really an insult to him if we are dreaming of being someone else!! He had a plan for us when he made us. He seems to know what he is doing? Just think how much better we would be if we began to see ourselves the way the Lord sees us? If we are good enough for him, why are we trying to be someone else?

Psalm 139:13-16 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Doesn’t that say it all?

It all begins with self-acceptance. So who are you comparing yourself to? If you have faith then you can begin to understand how you can learn to love yourself. Are you sure you want to compare yourself to others? Is their life and what they have really what you want? You have heard "the grass is greener on the other side the fence." REALLY? REALLY?

Learn to be content with who you are. Always striving to improve yourself. Never ask God to help you be like someone else. Remember he is God you aren’t!! He knows the end from the beginning. He is the Alpha and Omega. He knows the reasons he made you the way you are. He doesn’t make mistakes. In his eyes he made you perfect. Now we need to start acting and becoming the person he made us to be.

You can start by having a relationship with him. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you and guide you into being the person you were set out to be. Stop comparing yourself with anyone. We can celebrate our own uniqueness. Think of the future God has planned just for you. Start loving yourself, right where you are today.
